La Paz Waterfall

On January 1, 2009, George, Dolly, Erin, Russ and I visited beautiful La Paz, with its four powerful and beautiful waterfalls, high in a Costa Rican rainforest. On January 8 La Paz was the epicenter for a 6.1 earthquake that completely wiped out the stairway you see us ascending and the waterfalls turned to mud. Dolly shared a photo from Tico Times and it was overwhelming to see the stairway destroyed and to contemplate having just been there, what if? Dolly has reported that five English tourists were missing at the falls. I hope by now they have been found unharmed.

I did hear from Dolly that they were alive and well, Belle. The earthquake damage was so sad and continues to be because it is affecting tourism right now and everyone that is in the industry is suffering, from cab drivers to hotels. They do seem to be cleaning up very fast and that is a good thing.
